CDAS™ incorporates all of the features for dietary assessment as found in the LifeLine Cumulative and Aggregate Exposure and Risk Assessment Software™ Ver. 4.4.1.
CDAS™ empowers the assessor to consider key realities in the way people eat:
- In some seasons, people may change their location OR choose to eat food items not typically in their normal diet. CDAS™:
- Considers the time on vacation at a camp or spent with family eating a highly ethnic diet.
- Considers the annual migrations of some subpopulations to their fish camps or hunting camps where menus will be focused to non-commercial foods for those periods as well as for the time when those harvested foods are consumed at home.
- Food items on the usual menu for some subpopulations will not be in any commercial dietary survey but may be very important for an accurate and representative exposure and risk assessment. Often, residue data have been collected in these foods and have been cited as the initiator for concern about the safety of these diets. Without a tool like the CDAS™, this type of information is very difficult to use.
- Within a population, the eating habits may differ greatly from one age group to another, and may vary for all people from season to season. Furthermore, even in populations eating highly traditional foods, some commercial foods are available and eaten along with the traditional foods. This “menu blending” requires the use of food lists from the unique diet as well as the commercial diet as represented in CSFII. The degree of this blending may be age dependent as well as seasonally dependent, reflecting generational preferences as well as economics—the availability of the commercial food items in the community or family pantry.
